Gene Anderson lectures for the Parent Assembly on April 7, 2006

Gene AndersonThe Part-Time Pro - A Magic Lecture by Gene Anderson

The debut of Gene Anderson’s "Part-Time Pro" lecture was for the Academy of Magical Arts in Hollywood. He was nominated for Lecturer of the Year on its very first presentation, and also nominated for Visiting Magician of the Year for that week’s performances at the Magic Castle. Since then new editions of the “Part-Time Pro” lecture have been presented at conventions and clubs across the USA and in ten other countries

The premise of the lecture is that most magicians do something other than magic for a living, but many would also like to perform magic for professional fees. From the outset Gene’s goal was to deliver a magic lecture that was unique, practical and highly entertaining. Its many repeat bookings (5 times at I.B.M. national conventions) are a testament to that success. Classic magical principles, when framed in modern guise, will fool you while they make you (and laymen!) laugh. Newspaper magic, almost synonymous with Gene Anderson, is used to demonstrate both newspaper’s magical possibilities and some universal lessons in comedy, showmanship and entertainment. A “ten steps” framework for developing your own show makes this a true lecture experience which will inspire you to bring creative approaches and novelty into your routines and presentations.

Gene speaks from experience as a part-time pro: he has performed magic professionally in 21 countries on six continents, and he also has a Ph.D. in chemistry and was a global director in research and development at The Dow Chemical Company. He won seven first prize trophies in magic competitions for stage, comedy, close-up and originality, was on the covers of Genii and The Linking Ring, and he is one of only six performers honored as lifetime members of the Magic Circle of Norway. Among his many magical writings, his book Newspaper Magic, now in its eleventh printing, is one of the best selling ever.

The lecture will take place at 8 PM on Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Soldiers', Sailors', Marines' and Airmen's Club, 283 Lexington Avenue (between 36th and 37th Streets), 2nd Floor, New York, New York.
