John Luka "Secrets For the Serious Magician" Lecture
on Monday, September 17th
John
Luka has been an avid magic enthusiast for most of his life. Included among his
mentors were Milt Kort and Harry Riser. John is the founder of The Motor City
Close-Up Convention, held in Taylor, Michigan, now in its eleventh year. This
convention brings TOP LINE performers into Metro-Detroit to perform and lecture.
John’s “Thoughts On…” column appeared in The New Tops
magazine published by the Abbott Magic Company. The column ran from October of
1993 to December of 1994. The entire contents of John’s “Thoughts On…” column
were published by L & L Publishing in Luka’s first major book, L.I.N.T.,
and included material that never made the pages of The New Tops.
This lecture contains material from John’s new book, Uncovered.
You will find routines that range in skill level from nearly self-working to
some that are a bit more challenging. However, you will NOT find any knuckle
busters in the items presented. Some of the magic includes a no palm card to
wallet that kills and is easy to do and a three-ball routine that you’ll be
scratching your head over.
Featured is Licked At Last, which the experts are calling
the best yet In The Hands Triumph. Another stand out item is Back To
The 19th Century, an incredible assembly that will make you a believer.
There’s even more great stuff that you will find works well in
the real world. Each and every effect has been audience tested over the years.
So, you know you’re getting the real deal. Every item that John performs at the
lecture will be fully explained.
Although not new to magic, John is new to the lecture scene.
Don’t let that deter you. You will find that John’s lecture contains more
do-able, practical magic than most lectures. Attend this lecture and find out
for yourself. You’ll be glad you did.
Here's what
others are saying about John's lecture:
“IBM Ring 68 hosted
a lecture by John Luka featuring his new book “Uncovered”. John is an excellent
thinker, and pay’s close attention to detail. His work mostly with cards and a
few other props is a close up workers dream.
Much to
my delight, he fooled me badly and repeatedly. My favorites from the lecture
included “Back to the 19th Century”, “Michigan Monte”, and his
“Invisible Palm”.
Be sure
to see John or book his lecture for your club, you won’t be disappointed.” -
Pattrick Przysiecki, President Ring 68, Toledo Society of Magicians
“John Luka recently lectured for IBM Ring 22. I
judge the success of the lecture by the "buzz" afterward. After John's lecture
everyone I heard from found at least two items from the lecture that they were
going to use immediately. John is a natural teacher, with an easy going warmth
that draws you right in. You won't cramp up in laughter. You won't gasp at
impossible displays of dexterity. You WILL be fooled and you WILL be absolutely
delighted to have several routines that you WILL be using in your own shows.
John's
"Licked at Last" is a winner! It went into my own show two weeks later- and it’s
a keeper! His "Chromo Balls" is a delight, and played strong for my own
audience. His gaff-less Side Walk Shuffle, "Michigan Monte," is solid - and it
will throw those who know the standard Lewis version. John closes with a killer
4 card assembly, "Back to the 19th Century", that you'd swear has no moves. A
magician fooler as well as an audience slayer.
Some
lectures are laugh riots; some are displays of awesome and daunting skill that
few can hope to attain; some are just "dealer demos." A very precious few
lectures are practical lessons of solid, commercial, engaging routines within
reach of the average magician. John Luka's lecture is one of those rare
wonderful lectures.” - Mark Kandel, President Ring 22, Detroit
“I want to thank you
for coming and lecturing to Ring 212. I've seen a lot of lectures in my 40 years
in magic, but yours really stands out for clever useable material. I enjoyed
your clear explanations of the various effects performed at your lecture. Two
routines have gone right into my repertoire and I know other members in our club
also discovered some practical material, which they can use. Thanks again.” -
Mark E Ginther MD, President of Ring 212, Bay City, MI
“It was a pleasure
to have John Luka present his current lecture titled, “Uncovered: The John Luka
Lecture.” John’s presentation was very entertaining and his explanations were
quite detailed. The club thanks him much for his lecture and fully recommends
John to any club.” – Randy Vander Wal – IBM TVP for Michigan
