The Dean Performs for PA #1

New York, NY - Our October 7th meeting was packed with business this busy month in New York City. We spoke of Magic Week, the Assembly budget, and our annual Salute to Magic scheduled for the spring. Ken Schwabe, our First Vice-President, who presided over the meeting lead us in a loud round of applause congratulating Past Assembly President George Schindler on the honor of becoming the Dean of the Society of American Magicians. After much discussion Ken adjourned the meeting following the S.A.M. rituals.

Our after meeting show this October was a close-up show that was produced by Ken Schwabe. After we all found our seats Ken greeted us and started the show. The first performer of the night was the amazing George Schindler. As usual George’s wit has almost as fast as his hands as he masterfully entertained. Sponge balls and laughter seemed to fill the room. He did several fine card effects and it was a treat to watch this professional work.

David Gregory, Julian Joiris and Jonathan Hidalgo also treated us to three fine performances. These are new members who will be joining us after graduating from the Bob McAllister SYM #69, which is led by Albert Lasher. The legendary Dr. Ken Krenzel made the impossible possible as his “tracker jacks” mysteriously found selected cards. The creativity of his magic always astonishes me. Jack Diamond performed several fine routines. He had cards traveling magically from place to place and finished with a Call to the Colors.

Then Bobby Torkova gave a strong performance starting with a beautiful routine with a red egg bag. Eggs were everywhere. He performed a ring on stick routine, in which a ring penetrated a wand held at both ends by spectators. His finish was three wonderful mind reading routines which thrilled the crowded room. The last performer of the night was Rene Clement whose magic is the kind of crowd pleaser you would want as you closer. As usual he was flawless and very good.

After the show many of us gathered at Sarge’s restaurant for a late night bite and more magic, as is our custom on meeting nights.
