November Meeting Report - Wesley James Lectures for PA #1
New York, New York
On November 9th the Dean of the Parent Assembly Sam Schwartz joined a lively
group of 12 at the S.A.M. Magic Table. The Table meets Fridays from 12:30 on for
lunch at the Edison Hotel Café on 47th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue in
Times Square. Talking about the Table the former host of the Table Mike
Bornstein is one of the three people the new book “Hidden New York” is dedicated
to. The book contains 6 pages on the Magic Table and other haunts of
metropolitan magicians. At the Book Party in the Municipal Arts Society on
November 6th National Dean George Schindler spoke before the crowd of over 300
people about the Table and its history. George was there with Table regulars
Jerry Oppenheimer, Eric DeCamps, Bob Friedhoffer, Richard Bossong, Isaac
Rodriguez and I recreating the Magic Table for the event.
Out monthly meeting was held on November 3rd at Mount Sinai in upper Manhattan.
As usual it started with Harvey Berg’s Teach-a-Trick at 6:30. It was well attend
and enjoyed.
By 7:15 it was time to start our general meeting. Our MI President Ken Schwabe
opened the meeting. Several new members came to join the Parent Assembly with
checks in hand and applications filled out. The meeting went quickly as Ken is a
good manager of business and assembly affairs. The meeting ended on time as we
had a fine lecture as our after meeting event.
The night which was produced by President Schwabe was a lecture by New York’s
Wesley James. Many of us know Mr. James as a principal in New York’s Magic Towne
House in the early 1970’s and as a professional performer. Welsey James
presented a wonderful lecture broken into three parts. First was a dazzling
close-up performance. Then in the second and third parts he performed and then
taught and clearly explained many fine effects. He presented his “L.S.D. Aces”
and “Cannibal Cards” and many others from his book “Enchantments”. His skill and
handling amazed even Dr. Ken Krenzel in the front row. The lecture went well
into the evening and it was a wonderful night
