Silly Billy's "Kids' Night" Packs the House
New York, New York
In town to shop at Tannen’s on Friday Feb 16th George Gilbert Lott came
to the S.A.M. Magic Table. He shared magic and tales of his life in magic
with Richard Bossong and the regulars. The Table meets Fridays from 12:30 on
for lunch at the Edison Hotel Café on 47th Street between 7th and 8th Avenue
in Times Square. Also joining us was Bob Friedhoffer with two Physics
professors friends who got a lesson in physical impossibilities for the
members of the Table.
Our monthly meeting was held on February 2nd at Mount Sinai. At 6:30 Harvey
Berg presented his “Pocket Full of Miracles” effect for this month
Teach-a-Trick presentation. He had a good crowd in the seminar room, which
broke up by 7:15 in time for our MI President Ken Schwabe start our meeting.
Workshop Chairman George Silverman reported on the January workshop. The
ticket sales policy of our 98th Annual Salute to Magic was presented.
Tickets are $50.00 and can be bought on our website – www.sampa1.com. After
some questions on transportation the short meeting ended.
Our after meeting event in the auditorium was “Kids’ Night” produced by
David Kaye (Silly Billy). As Silly Billy, David opened by pointing to one
black dot on a large white card and said “This is my pet spot”. He then did
a charming Magic Spots routine as only this master of children magic could
do. He had assembled a nights of very talented performers from all parts of
the world of magic for children. The Magical Sage did some comical juggling
that drove the children crazy with delight. Although I think his partner the
rubber chicken got big laughs too. Rico the Clown was much more the magician
this night as he did the Misers Dream ala Al Flosso. Newly turned pro Magic
Mikey did a fine routine where white and black spot magical changed places
on silks to his magic words “Misty Metamorphosis”. Balloon guy extraordinaire
Todd Neufeld next performed some magic of his own creating a balloon puppy
and magically pushed it into a sealed balloon without a pop. David Levitan
performed magic that is usually done for adult audiences like the Linking
Rings. What was completely different was his handling and timing which was
tailor made for his audience of very responsive kids. Silly Billy closed the
performance with balloon wands for all the kids but the evening was not
over. A very informative panel discussion followed and ended the wonderful
night.
